Mark Meadows Federal Court Move

Federal Judge Rejects Mark Meadows' Request to Move Georgia Election Case to Federal Court

Denied Request

A federal judge has denied former Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows' request to move his Georgia election interference charges to federal court. The decision, issued on Friday, represents a significant setback for Meadows, who had argued that his actions were taken in his official capacity as a federal employee.

Georgia Case Remains

As a result of the court's ruling, the prosecution against Meadows for attempting to overturn the 2020 election will continue in Georgia state court. The case alleges that Meadows conspired to pressure Georgia officials to overturn the election results in favor of former President Donald Trump.

Appeals Court Rejection

This latest rejection follows a similar decision by a federal appeals court in December 2022. The appeals court also rejected Meadows' argument that his case should be moved to federal court, finding that he had not shown that he had acted solely within the scope of his employment while attempting to overturn the election.
