Charles Ellis Schumer was born on November 23, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Harvard College and Harvard Law School, graduating with honors from both institutions.

Political Career

Schumer began his political career in the New York State Assembly, where he served from 1975 to 1980. He was then elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing New York's 9th congressional district from 1981 to 1999.

In 1998, Schumer was elected to the U.S. Senate. He has been reelected five times, most recently in 2022. During his tenure in the Senate, Schumer has held several leadership positions, including Senate Minority Leader (2011-2017) and Senate Majority Leader (2021-present).
